However, a bar with a little fat should be selected, so that one will feel satisfied after its consumption. Additionally, one should be wary of sugar alcohols. Snack products that are touted as sugar-free often contain this ingredient. Sugar alcohols, however, can create gastrointestinal problems, such as uncomfortable bloating and gas.

High fiber bars are typically a wise option, regardless of how they will be used. This is due to the fact that high fiber diets are healthy for almost all men and women and eating extra fiber rarely does anyone any harm. Additionally, one can assume that brands containing generous amounts of fiber are healthy, as high sugar bars, or those that contain other junk food ingredients do not typically contain fiber as well.

Fortified bars are also a good option if one is interested in consuming an extra amount of certain vitamins. For example, some manufacturers add vitamin C to their products, while others fortify them with iron or antioxidants. This decision will largely depend on one's personal taste and preferences.
